Robert and Jean O'Hara Sheridan
Robert K. Sheridan became President and CEO of The Savings Bank Life Insurance Company of Massachusetts (“SBLI”) in 1992. He joined SBLI in 1990 as Executive Vice President after serving as President of the Massachusetts Bankers Association and as President of the Savings Banks Association of Massachusetts. He retired as SBLI President and CEO in November of 2012.
Mr. Sheridan is a former Vice Chairman of the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees, and currently serves as Chairman of the UMass Building Authority. His extensive involvement in civic and professional organizations includes serving as Chairman of the Board of the Life Insurance Association of Massachusetts; as a Trustee of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation; and as a Director of the New England Council, the New England Center for Children, the Massachusetts Business Roundtable, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester.
Jean O’Hara Sheridan taught school in the City of Brockton for 24 years. Bob and Jean met at Boston College and graduated together in 1972. They were both the first in their families to attend college. Jean went on to receive her Masters in Education from Bridgewater State University, and Bob received his law degree from Suffolk University. They were married in 1976 and have four children: Amy, Rob, Timothy, and Catherine.
To honor Robert Sheridan’s legacy of service to the University and Commonwealth, the funds raised on April 26, 2011 at the University of Massachusetts Boston’s 7th Annual Scholarship Gala have established an endowment to support the Robert and Jean O’Hara Sheridan Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded annually to residents of Boston, Jamaica Plain, and Everett who are full-time UMass Boston undergraduates, with a preference for those who participate in co-curricular activities.
