The Edith G. Colantuono and Amelia and Henry De Angelis Scholarship
In 1993, Edith G. De Angelis and her sisters, Florence R. D’Avella and Catherine F. Zarba, established a scholarship fund to honor and memorialize their mother, father, and aunt’s selfless humanitarian acts throughout their lives. With the help of Dr. Theresa M. Corcoran, Richard D’Avella, and countless other volunteers, the Edith G. Colantuono and Amelia and Henry De Angelis Scholarship Fund has raised over $100,000 over the past twenty years of fundraising and has awarded needed scholarship aid to more than 100 students. De Angelis herself has organized fundraisers, such as her 75th birthday party nearly ten years ago, to reach out to generous family and friends in her mission to support hardworking and selfless college students at UMass Boston.
The De Angelis scholarship fund began its efforts by awarding one student $100 in 1995. Today, outstanding students at UMass Boston, Brooksby Village Retirement Community and St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota who demonstrate academic prowess, outstanding leadership efforts, and consistent volunteer work to their communities are awarded annual scholarships.
